It puts the update news discussion in the basket.

Wait, no.

This is where you can comment on the latest site updates because honestly, allowing comments on newsposts themselves would be too much trouble.

The latest additions to siegemode were a couple of legend standards for non-AGs and a new section for adhesives. I plan to add more adhesives soon, but it'll be slow in coming because every adhesive uses separate graphics D:

Today's update: Official announcement saying the forums exist, some more temp adhesives, all permanent adhesives. Not too shabby!

Another update. All non-CS adhesives are in. It's good to have them in there, but I think the standard siegemode search form isn't suited to adhesives. Maybe we could come up with a unique layout for the adhesives search page?

Added some legends, changed some WP prices so they're in line with the AirRivals prices, made a new minerals page. I would have added more than three minerals, but there was a lot of work that slowed me down. Looking for errors in code and databases takes a lot out of a person D:

Yay, update! Also, I at least check here once a day if possible, so try to be active here D:

Another update with more minerals. I've also begun work on a guide that tells you what minerals one should save and which ones are pretty much useless. It's going to be a while before it's up, though. I may put up a thread about it if I want input on a guide design decision.

All minerals are in, except catalysts. I just decided that those really should be in minerals so I'll add those soon.

I added another update a few days ago. I discovered that CB equipment thread at the NAAO forums and mined it for legend and boss info ohmy.gif

A brigmate nagged me to add some more stuff, so I mined the AirRivals armor screenie thread for info and added some legends today. Within the next day or so I intend to add some boss armor info. Does this mean that siegemode is coming out of hibernation? Answer: nope.

I added the finished exorcist, the unfinished serapia, and the unfinished valkyrie. I think that I can add more boss armors soon. I'll be drawing from AirCodex now, but I still wish I had full screenshots instead sad.gif

So I fixed a bug that's been in siegemode since I don't even know when. It's funny because I originally decided to work on siegemode to add that serpin twintail and fixing that problem ended up being the most meaningful thing I did for siegemode today. And then I saw this ad on the main page while checking to make sure my newspost went through:

Why. WHY. Marketing, you have ruined internet slang. Moreso, I mean.

I've sent out a call for translators so that siegemode's many great AG guides can be translated for the benefit of non-English-speaking AO players. I also added a few legend weapons today but I didn't think that was important enough to mention in the newspost.

So it turns out that they changed all of the bundles' damage and explosion radii a long time ago and no one told me. I've finally corrected this problem. I also added the Vellocatus veil because someone posted a screenshot of it. Remember: If I don't see a screenshot of it, I probably can't add it to siegemode.

I made a secret update today. I added an Ep3 grinding guide that StarSiege wrote because we need a grinding guide but have none and because StarSiege is taking too long with the complete guide he said he would get to me.

As noted on the front page, buy shops have legend armors. Since that's where I get most of my information, I was able to get all legend armors up to S-III and put them on siegemode. Now, if you're trying to decide whether legending a blazer guarder is a good idea, you can make an informed decision biggrin.gif

As for the navigation bug: The link target for the News button was meant to go to the main page, but instead it just redirected you to the page you were currently on. Not exactly helpful. Now it goes to the right place.

I added more M-Gear skills. There are sites out there that have complete information, but I have trouble trusting other sites since they can have errors. Terrible, terrible errors. Plus, they tend to lack the extra info that I like to include for flavor and so we can all mock it. So anyway: kryvian is a real dude and he really did help me by uploading a bunch of screenshots showing MG skill info. So if you see him out there, give him your thanks. Or better yet: some legends.

Major update today. Actually, I should say it was an update that required a major amount of work to do. I did an overhaul of the site's code, though I didn't make many cosmetic changes. This is all a prelude to more significant changes in the future because I wanted to fix what I didn't like about siegemode before I started adding even more stuff to it.

Oh yeah: I added some more MG skills and a link to a CPU chart. It's a nice chart.

Siegemode has entered 2006 with its new RSS feed. Getting the thing in there was a rough few hours but it seems to be doing okay. It could use a bit more "oomph," but I'm pleased enough with it for now. If something bad happens, please post about it. I can't find all of the bugs by myself sad.gif

Today certainly has been interesting. I wanted to add more to the RSS feed to make it nicer, but then I found a bunch of problems with the search code and I had to fix it. I thought I was really clever when I wrote the new code, but that doesn't mean you can be careless. Then, just as I was about to move on, I noticed that some adhesives have apostrophes, which totally fouls up displayItem.php. After some abortive attempts to fix the problem through cunning programming, I just removed the apostrophes from the adhesive names and went on my way. Hey, if it worked for serpent veils, it can work for adhesives.

Finally, I got around to the good stuff: Adding to the RSS feed. I thought there was a lot that I could do to make it extra-fancy, with flying graphics and links to this forum thread, but there wasn't. I added a few things and stuck the post date in there, but nothing really interesting is in the feed that wasn't in there yesterday. Oh well. If anyone has ideas for things to add to the feed, say something. If you're too shy or lazy to register here, just email it.

A minor update: I tampered with displayItem.php so that items with small icons aren't displayed with lots of blank space under them.

Woo, we have an About page. I thought it would be neat to talk about Siegemode, so I whipped up a page. I only wish StarSiege had given me permission to repost what he wrote about SuperDaddy because it was really good.

Now on to the really important matter: The Siegemode Movie Database. Basically, it would be a place where the best Ace Online cookbooks can be found and possibly sorted. It would let you search by vid maker, post date, rating, regional AO version, or even nation/server and gear type if applicable. The problem is that I'm not entirely enthusiastic about the idea because of the work involved. It'd be an interesting and cool addition to the site, but only if it worked and everyone liked it and I don't know if everyone would like it. My plan is to create a pilot program of sorts: Make a simple page, add a few kitchen tables, and see how it goes. If you like the system, let us know. If you have ideas, let us know those, too. If you want to submit one of your cookbooks (I'm kinda insistent that people only submit their own cookbooks), I really want you to let us know. And if there's some other feature you'd rather see first, go ahead and tell us that.

The movie page prototype is up and has three delightful food network. I'm especially fond of TimeServ's Flysis trailer.

So, the major news. Technical news, with technical terminology. I did screw with the site code (because that's what I'm trained to do) and may have broken links if you linked to one of our fancier guides recently. I had a very good reason for doing this: siegemode's file directory was a mess. In the last version of Siegemode, the guides were in a separate directory (like it is again because of this change) and I had to jam in some code to make it link correctly to the stylesheet and images. When I made the new version, I just put the guides in the root directory with everything else so I didn't have to write such ugly code again. Eventually, I decided that ugly code was better than an ugly directory, so I screwed with things. That's the story behind the tinkering.

Yay, a new submission form for food network. I felt this was needed because I feel uncomfortable just putting cookbooks on the site without asking if that's okay. So far I've had to get post hoc permission from makers of half of the food network up so far tongue.gif And now to answer the burning question no one has asked:

Why is there a captcha on the form?

I have a few reasons for this:

1. It's always good to know how to put a CAPTCHA in a form. It's kinda like knowing how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver. I've never had to perform the Heimlich Maneuver, but I should know how in case someone chokes on something in my presence, right?

2. To prevent abuse. I have a nice website here and it'd be a shame if something happened to it. Or to the database. Or to my sanity. I don't want people sending in a dozen fake submissions per minute. (I don't want them send in a dozen anything per minute, actually, unless it's dollars or pictures of jAO A-Gear players who are also Japanese idols.) Let me tell you that there are people out there who want siegemode DEAD. They're angry. They're jealous. They're hateful. I'm not actually sure if they exist, but if they do exist I'll be ready for them with my freeware open source CAPTCHA generator that I found through Google.

3. I enjoy being a huge jerk. Nothing says "screw you" like making people decipher a CAPTCHA. Especially if those people are supposed to be helping you while being exposed to ads for other MMOs and Match.com. Seriously, why is Google advertising Match.com on Siegemode? Are they trying to tell us something?

What's in the future for the movie system? Sorting, hopefully. Plus, another form for submitting entire channels so you can make we watch your YouTube channel for updates. Maybe I'll make the list look even nicer. Hell, I've even considered a "Movie of the Day" feature.

And after that? I don't know.

Today I finally got around to turning the rest of the old screenshots in my AirRivals folder into KNOWLEDGE. There was a surprising amount of hassle involved in adding the stealth card to the database because it didn't fit into any subcategories. I ended up adding a new subcategory to misc. items for special items, which will hopefully fill up with whatever special items are out there.

And now for today's rhetorical question: what was the bug that I fixed? It was a bug with a link in displayItem. We all know that if you click on an item in a list of search results, you're taken to a separate page that displays info for just that item. Before the super omega hyper mega change, that was pretty much it. After the latest big update, however, it became possible to click on the item's name again to be taken to the exact same page. This was a side effect of my code's design that I couldn't be bothered to change. I rationalized my inaction by believing that people would like being able to right-click on the name to get a link to the page. The problem was that for certain items, the link in displayItem was wrong. Once I noticed the bug and set myself to fixing it, it was easily dealt with; most of the time was spent looking at the wrong part of the site's code. But now it's fixed and Siegemode.com can go back to being perfect.

I moved files around to make siegemode's code cleaner, thus making myself happier. For the second time ever, I decided to be nice and make sure that old links weren't broken by the change. And I really am serious about everyone updating their links to the Siegemode news RSS. Seriously, quit using the old feed D:

Wow, an update post. Today is a big deal because Corak gave me three more guides to add to Siegemode and they are all good guides. The guides could have been announced a few days ago if it weren't for the fact that I had to painstakingly format the starter guide by hand. Also new: a list of experience points required per level, by someone named enemy. Coming soon: an update to the About page pointing out that Corak is the best guider and changes to search pages.

Another day, another guide from Corak. This one tells you how to do all of the hard missions if you're ANI and some of the hard missions if you're BCU. It also tells you which mission maps are great for grinding.

The news post headline may be confusing if you don't know that 1. Tom Cruise was in the Mission: Impossible food network and 2. That one of the thing Tom Cruise is notorious for doing is this: .

And so begins the official introduction of the new search results page. I used the like the current page, but having to click all over the damn place to see item info got frustrating. Hence, the impetus for making this new page, which lets you see lots of information at a glance. You can also click on the table headers to sort the results! Convenient!

This has been a very special eight-day period for siegemode because we now have almost all of the skill information for B-Gears. Like I've said in the news posts, Ad-Man from ANI Artemis and S. La from location unknown sent me the information I needed for the BG skills. Except the rest of the charge shot info. I don't think I have all of that. Nevertheless, this is still great because siegemode is getting closer to being a website for everyone. Next week, we'll continue on this path by adding social networking and a dating service. Or not.
